Athena's Year with City Year
It may be three years away, but the countdown is on to the FIFA World Cup 2026. There have been plenty of reasons to get excited about the game, from Lionel Messi’s move to Inter Miami to the U.S. women’s national team’s exciting (but short-lived) run in this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup. It’s no secret how much Athena loves the game—we helped Philadelphia secure the bid to be one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Our most recent project with FMC Corporation brought us right back to the pitch—or at least the turf used for the pitch. FMC was the official turf care provider of the English Premier League’s Summer Series at Lincoln Financial Field. For the first time in its history, the Summer Series took place in the U.S. with six soccer clubs in five major East Coast cities in late July. Lincoln Financial Field hosted the inaugural preseason game between Chelsea FC and Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

Athena supported FMC in developing a one-of-a-kind opportunity for fans to show off their soccer moves with an interactive activity for the Summer Series Fan Zone. Visitors were invited to participate in a target practice game with three attempts to shoot a soccer ball into five targets in a small goal net on turf like the pros get to play on. Brand ambassadors were on hand to talk about FMC’s sustainability mission and answer questions about the company’s work in professional sports and presence in Philadelphia. Fans received FMC swag like hoo-rag headbands and plantable seed coasters.

Athena also supported FMC in creating their VIP Suite Experience at the Linc. Over two days, more than 100 executives and customers visited the suite for premium seating, complimentary food and beverages, and branded merch including futbol scarves bearing the FMC logo.

Headquartered in Philadelphia, FMC Corporation is a global agricultural sciences company dedicated to helping farmers produce food, feed, fiber, and fuel for an expanding world population while adapting to a changing environment. FMC’s innovative crop protection enable farmers, crop advisers, and turf and pest management professionals to address their toughest challenges economically while protecting the environment. This year the company made Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies list for a second consecutive year.

FMC provides advanced turf care solutions for professional sports such as football, soccer and golf, working in conjunction with farmers and ground crews to grow plants that serve as optimum playing surfaces for top athletes.
